MANN, PETER WARREN - October 18, 1943- August 14, 2009 Peter W. Mann, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2009 at his home in Albuquergue, New Mexico. Born at Nyack Hospital to the late James and Mary Mann. He was raised in Tappan, NY and attended Tappan Grammar school and Tappan Zee H.S. graduating in 1961. He played varsity football and ran track at Tappan Zee. Following graduation, he went on to join the U.S. Navy for a short time before receiving a medical discharge after injuring his knee during training. He then attended and graduated from Siena College in Troy, NY with a Degree in Finance. Upon graduation, he went on to join the New York State Police, graduating with honors from the Academy in 1966. He went on to serve to the citizens of the State of New York form any years and retired as a Detective after being seriously injured in the line of duty. In 1968, he was selected as New York State Trooper of the year. He and his late wife, Tina moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1974. Tina preceded him in death in 1994 after 21 years of marriage. "Coach Pete" continued to be active in the community and volunteered his time coaching and mentoring baseball and softball to the youth and young men of Albuquerque and Santa Fe Indian School, as well as the Indian League which was comprised of most tribes in New Mexico and Arizona. Peter is survived by his daughter Evangelina and her husband Edward Lamont Runnels of Rockwall, Texas; his grandchildren Jasmine, Karina and Edward Lamont, Jr, all at home in Rockwall, Jeffrey Price and family of Forney, Texas; brothers James of Boston, Paul of Canton, Ohio and John Mann of Barton, VT; several nieces and nephews and cousins and many life long friends. He was also received in death by his brother Bobby. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 PM Thursday, August 20, at French-Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd, NE., Albuquerque, NM.
