MUSIKAR, SAM - Sam Musikar of Ardsley died on Sunday, April 6, 2003 after a valiant bout with cancer. Sam was born August 4, 1923 in the Bronx, New York to Jacob and Sarah Musikar. Sam was a man of contrasts; a lifelong New Yorker, he was a city boy who loved the country, a WW II veteran who loved peace. Beloved husband of Bernice, loving father of Henry and Debora, dear brother of Florence, and cherished grandfather of Jessica, Sam is fondly remembered by many friends and family members as a good man with a great and generous spirit who loved them, and was loved by them. We will all miss him. Sam was a graduate of New York University and previously from Parson's School of design, where he met Bernice Saffran, the woman who became his most treasured companion and wife for 54 years. Sam was art director for the Bright and LaSalle printing corporations, as well as a freelance graphic artist. Sam's fine artwork included drawings, paintings, printmaking, photographs, and sculpture, ranging from social realism to cubist and abstract styles. He loved life. His interests, knowledge, and experience were wide, and ranged from carpentry to anthropology, from fishing to an amazing variety of music. A memorial celebration of Sam's life is planned for some time in June. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gilda's Club of Westchester, 80 Maple Avenue, White Plains, New York 10601.
