FOX, JEAN

Jean Fox, of Purchase, NY, died of lung cancer on July 1, 2009 at home. She was 94 years old. Jean was born June 6, 1915 in New York, NY, daughter of the late August and Bessie Freiman. She married Dr. Charles A. Fox on March 22, 1941. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed gourmet cooking. Surviving are her daughter, Emily Fox of Eugene, OR, and son, F. L. Fox of San Francisco, CA. Jean was also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Louise Spitzer, Marcia Lester and Sylvia Mark. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains. Interment will follow in the Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. Contributions in Jean's memory may be made to Phelps Memorial Hospital, 701 N. Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591.

GENDELL, GERALD S.

Gerald (Gerry) S. Gendell, 80, died on June 29 of complications from metastatic melanoma with his wife of 57 years, Marion, by his side. Gerry grew up in Ossining, NY and graduated from New York University in 1949. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant by the U.S. Army in 1952. After his honorable discharge, Gerry joined the Procter & Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio where he was best known as the brand manager who launched the Pringle's potato chip business. He headed P&G's worldwide Public Affairs and Public Relations Operations, and served as president and trustee of the Procter & Gamble Fund, retiring after 39 years at the company. Gerry was active in the Cincinnati community serving as Vice Chairman of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, Vice-Chair and Trustee of the Jewish Hospital, and Board member of Hebrew Union College. His greatest joy was raising his seven children who survive him: Carin Gendell of Great Falls, VA; Danna Korell of Naperville, IL; Dr. Adrian Bonser of Dunwoody, GA; Jeff Gendell of Greenwich, CT; David Gendell of Westport, CT; Marc Gendell of Atlanta, GA; and Bradley Gendell of New York City. Upon his retirement, Gerry and Marion relocated to Tucson, Arizona where he served as President of the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona. In addition to his children, he is survived by his brother, Martin Gendell of New York City, and by 13 loving grandchildren.


HOULIHAN, JOHN

John Houlihan, 86, of St. Petersburg, Fl, Formerly of Yonkers, Died on march 11, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Fl. He was born on October 1, 1922 to Thomas and Ellen Harding Houlihan in Yonkers where he graduated from Sacred Heart High School. John proudly served his country in the US navy. He married his loving wife Catherine Whalen on November 23, 1946 in Sacred heart Church; she predeceased him on May 13, 2006. He was a Yonkers resident till he moved to Surf City, NJ (1986-1999) then to St. Petersburg, Fl from 1999 to present. John worked as the proprietor of Alibi Bar & Restaurant in Irvington fro 1966 - 1971. He then worked as a salesman for Culligan Water in Rockland County till 1986. Besides his wife Catherine John is predeceased by his mother Ellen Houlihan, Sisters Margaret Wetmore, Dalores Houlihan and Brothers Thomas and Frances Houlihan. He is survived by his loving children Nancy Mearshiemer of Cortland Manor, NY, Catherine Foxx of St. Petersburg, Fl, Margaret Maloney of Holmes Beach, Fl, and Maureen Breem of Bradenton, FL. Also surviving is his sister Helen Fagle of Yonkers, NY. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for John on Wednesday July 8th at 11 AM at Sacred heart Church in Yonkers with Interment of Johns Cremains in St. Joseph's Cemetery. LANTZ, ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Lantz, a lifelong New Rochelle resident, died July 1, 2009 at age 84. Born March 11, 1925 to James Joseph and Anne Elizabeth Bellizzi. Elizabeth attended Nursing School in Long Island and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse. She is the beloved wife of Anthony Lantz, devoted mother of Thomas Lantz (Jean), William Lantz (Diane) and Margaret "Peggy" Meli (Louis) and the late Anne Cam who died in 1988. She is the dear sister of James Bellizzi and the late Thomas Bellizzi, the loving grandmother of Michael, Marisa, James, Matthew, Eric, Timmy, Lizzy, Kristina and Billy and great grandmother of Christopher. MADURI, DOMINICK

Dominick J. Maduri a resident of Rye Brook, NY died July 2, 2009. He was 81 and was born December 28, 1927 in Greenwich, Ct. to the late Demetrio and Josephine Chila Meduri. He was raised and educated in Greenwich. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Maduri was the owner of Dom Maduri Masonry in Greenwich, Ct. He was married October 29, 1950 to Josephine DeMarco in Port Chester. He was a parishioner of the Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, Ct., and was a member of the 9th District Vets, Redmond's Association of Greenwich, and was a past Governor of the Moose Lodge in Port Chester. He was an avid golfer. Mr. Maduri is survived by his wife Josephine Maduri of Rye Brook, NY., son Steven Maduri and wife Nancy of White Plains, NY., daughter Donna Walczuk and husband Robert of Oak Park, CA., grandchildren Steven and Nancy Maduri of White Plains, NY., and Christine Flaherty and husband Patrick from Arizona, Kimberly and Katherine Walczuk of California, brothers and sisters Mary Burke, Frank Maduri, Anthony Meduri, Paul Maduri, Demetrio Meduri, Frances Tornatore, Phyllis Lanzaro and Paula Meduri. RAPPOCCIO, LAURA

Laura Rappoccio a resident of Danbury, Ct and formerly a longtime resident of Port Chester died July 1, 2009. She was 92 and was born April 28, 1917 in Port Chester to the late Giuseppe and Victoria Federici Lucente. She was raised and educated in both Port Chester and Tuckahoe, NY and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers. She was married to Peter R. Rappoccio on April 26, 1941 at Corpus Christi Church in Port Chester. Mr. Rappoccio died March 28, 1994. She was a supervisor for the Westchester County Association for Retarded Citizens in White Plains and retired in 1989. Mrs. Rappoccio was a parishioner of the Corpus Christi Church and was a member of the church's Christian Mothers and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Port Chester Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Daughters in Harrison, NY., and was past president of the Port Chester Association for Retarded Citizens. Mrs. Rappoccio is survived by her son Peter R. Rappoccio, Jr. and his wife Birdie of Ridgefield, Ct. and daughter Donna Rappoccio of Ossining, NY., grandsons Peter Rappoccio and his wife Alison and Tim Rappoccio and great granddaughter Evelyn Mia Rappoccio. brother Philip Lucenti of Greensboro, NC. and sister Annette Bochichio of New Port Richey, FL. and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother Anthony Lucente and sisters Rose DeSantis, Helen Ulmer, Elizabeth Carlucci and Josephine Tamborino. Rose Russo, 82 died June 30, 2009. She was raised in Valhalla and was a resident of Irvington since 1947. She was born in White Plains to Anthony and Angela DiPrinzio. She is survived by her husband Anthony, sons Tony (Cindy), Michael and Joseph(Maria), grandsons Paul, Daniel , Nicholas and Craig, sisters Jeanette Russo, Sylvia Lock and Virginia Colucci, brother Fred DiPrinzio. SAUNDERS, JAMES W.

James W Saunders, of White Plains, passed away on June 30, 2009. He was 63. Mr. Saunders was born on June 13, 1946 to the late Daniel and Virginia (Moore) Saunders in White Plains. He was a graduate of White Plains High School. James worked for The Equptex Industrial Products Corp. for 15 years as a supervisor, where he went by the nickname "Tool" for his unique ability as a mechanic and amateur artist. He painted and sculptured metal, which he gave away to family and friends. He retired in 2002. James was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a lifelong White Plains Resident. His family said that James was the family historian and loved antique cars. He is survived by his brother Robert Saunders and wife Patricia of White Plains. Two cherished nephews Robert and Steven and two grand nephews Steven (Linda) and Nicholas and a grand niece Amanda. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. SCARSDELLA, JOSEPH A.

Joseph A. Scarsella, a 23 year resident of South Salem died on July 1 at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was 49. Joe was born January 27, 1960 to Edward and Marie Scarsella and grew up in Bedford Hills. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School, John F. Kennedy High School and Syracuse University where he obtained a degree in Landscape Architecture. After graduating, Joe worked at Pound Ridge Nursery before starting his own landscape design firm in 1986. Joe kept an office in Bedford Hills and his business has grown steadily over the past 23 years. An avid lacrosse enthusiast as a player and a coach, Joe dedicated much of his time to coaching in the Katonah Lewisboro boys youth lacrosse program and was most recently an assistant coach with the John Jay High School varsity team. Joe will be remembered for his sense of humor, his many friendships and his love for the outdoors. He loved the beach and spent many summers on Nantucket and winters in Jamaica. Joe is survived by his wife Lisa and daughter Samantha of South Salem; parents Edward and Marie of Goldens Bridge; brother Michael of Briarcliff Manor; mother-in-law and father-in-law Pat and Agnes D'Avola of Mount Kisco; nieces and nephews Anthony, Morgan, Emma, Jameson and Sophia; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. SPUEHLER, WALTER GREGORY

Walter Gregory Spuehler, 60, of Pleasant Valley passed away on June 29, 2009. Born in Port Chester, NY on November 4, 1948, he was the son of the late Walter John Spuehler and Mary C. Spuehler. Walter (also known as Greg) was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife Veronica Vizoskie Spuehler and his daughter Bertalina (Dora) and his son Matthew Gregory. Greg also leaves behind his sisters Margaret Ford and Barbara Spuehler, his brother Peter Spuehler, and many nieces and nephews, including his godson James Ford and goddaughters Jane Arcuri and Allison Vizoskie. Greg served as a Sergeant in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 and was a graduate of Mercy College and Rye Neck High School. He was a long standing member of the American Legion in Mamaroneck. Recently retired, Greg was with the US Postal Service for over 40 years, serving as Postmaster of both Brewster and Valley Cottage. He also worked at Mamaroneck Post Office and lived in Mamaroneck for most of his early life. In years past, he was a Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician and Auxiliary Policeman. Greg always enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in the Adirondacks at the log cabin that he and his family built themselves at Barron's Creek in Pottersville. Greg freely shared use of the cabin with family and friends; a good time was had by all. He was an avid basketball and WWE wrestling fan and often attended events with his son, Matt. Greg enjoyed spending time at flea markets and shopping with his daughter Bertalina. The world is a better place because he was here. His sense of humor and his kind spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Sunday, July 5 at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, New York 12569. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, July 6 at St. Stanislaus Church on Main Street in Pleasant Valley. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
