Roslyn E. Wallace of Pearl River, NY, longtime resident, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at home. She was 84. Ms. Wallace worked as a Laboratory Director/Research Scientist for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. She was with the company for 45 years before retiring in 1984. Ms. Wallace was born July 30, 1924 in Rutledge, Georgia. She graduated from Brenau Women's College in 1944. She earned a Doctorate Degree from Harvard University in Biology, earned a Fulbright Award for developing an ingenious test system to determine the effect of cytotoxic agents on bone marrow when she studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Ms. Wallace will be remembered for her kindness, gentle nature, courage and taking on challenges. She was the first woman to be named as a Director of a Laboratory at Lederle Laboratories. She traveled extensively upon her retirement, going to Africa and Southeast Asia, among other places. She is survived by her brother, Theodore Wallace. She survived her brothers, William and Russell Wallace and her sister, Lottie Wallace. Visiting is Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
