James J. Timmings, Jr., a lifelong resident of North Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow passed away unexpectedly on February 16, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Marie and their three children, Claire Gallagher of Weston, FL, James J. Timmings 3rd and his wife Monica of Rye, NY; Eileen Dean and her husband Robert of Franklin Square, NY along with six grandchildren, Kelly, Matthew and Amy Gallagher and Sarah, Caroline and James J. Timmings IV. Mr. Timmings is also survived by his sister, Marguerite Kenyon and her husband Elmer Kenyon of Swanzey, New Hampshire. Mr. Timmings was a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII and the Korean War. He served on the USS Vulcan, AR-5. Fondly recalling his years of service with shipmates at ship reunions over recent years, he held in high esteem the time and those he served with. Mr. Timmings was an Electrical Engineering graduate of Manhattan College, and enjoyed a career with General Electric specializing in transportation systems which spanned 35 plus years working on rail and subway services from Washington DC to Boston. Mr. Timmings was an adjunct professor of electrical engineering at Westchester Community College for a period during his retirement. A volunteer firefighter with the Conqueror Hook & Ladder Company for the past 65 years, he also served as a Village Trustee in N. Tarrytown for 14 years from 1972 to 1986, during which time he also served as Deputy Mayor periodically. He has continued as an active member of the Westchester County Municipal Officials Association, serving most recently as a finance assistant of the organization. In retirement, he has enjoyed his passion for travel whether by car, train or ship with his wife Marie and sometimes with extended family. Along with his wife, Mr. Timmings is a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Sleepy Hollow, participating as an usher and reader at services. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00 at Immaculate Conception Church with interment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Conqueror Hook & Ladder Company P.O.
