BASIC FUNCTION
A Universal Editor reaches audiences by producing content for all delivery platforms; performs production-level copy-editing; writes headlines and captions; design pages; and handles related production tasks for print and digital delivery platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform production-level copy editing on articles and graphic elements that have cleared the front end. Ensure style, spelling, punctuation and grammar meet quality standards.
  • Design pages in accordance with established presentation standards.
  • Write and produce headlines, captions, teasers, refers, summaries and other content.
  • Proof pages and content; ensure the work of colleagues meets quality standards. Produce pages and/or edit content for special projects.
  • Lead and participate in peer training. Attend meetings, review internal communications, remain aware of current events and stay current on technology, audience targets, workflows and standard operating procedures.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Four-year College degree or equivalent experience; must have 2-5 years experience working on a production desk at a daily newspaper. Must have technical skills that demonstrate ability to work effectively on digital and print platforms.

    BASIC FUNCTION
    Contribute to the achievement of advertising division revenue goals by maintaining and building relationships with assigned sales reps’ accounts. Achieve revenue goals through needs-based selling with established accounts. Assess customer needs and identifies sales opportunities by working closely with accounts. Use print, online, and niche/ specialty products to create customized media mix solutions that meet specific customer needs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible to manage and reduce account churn thru direct selling of active and inactive accounts.
  • Assist sales reps for sales calls. Works ahead with sales reps on goals rather than selling in the current month only.
  • Make clear connections between customers most pressing needs and the products offered in order to meet customer needs.
  • Recognize buyer readiness and asks for the sale after establishing value and demonstrating how the proposed solution explicitly meets the customer most pressing needs.
  • Demonstrate ability to anticipate and address obstacles.
  • Provide marketing data, spec ads, co-op research, creative ideas, and affiliated sales teams to create new ideas and solutions for customers.
  • Work with sales reps in meeting stated goals within established timeframe; works with others to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Develop up-sell opportunities for existing accounts and makes recommendations to increase clients spending while meeting client objectives.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required. Successful at building relationships as an inside sales rep, minimum 2 years. Experience in or knowledge of real estate sales is desirable. Direct experience in newspaper advertising sales is strongly preferred. Experience with a consultative selling model, ability to balance driving product sales while maintaining a consultative approach. Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to present to customers, ability to generate compelling sales proposals based on research and data that is relevant to the customers. Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and required technology for the position. Must have regular access to a motor vehicle.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    BASIC FUNCTION
    Collect all monies due to The Journal News from dealer and rack accounts as assigned in a prompt, accurate and timely manner. Pick-up, verify contents and deliver to the accounting department, dealer return envelopes on a daily basis.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deposit company funds collected on daily basis. Turn in bank verified deposit tickets and dealer bills to accounting as per company guidelines.
  • Maintain racks, and keep racks clean and dirt-free. Report any rack problems to Regional Manager daily. Handle minor repairs to racks (window and/or mechanism replacement) as needed.
  • Distribute promotional materials, Point Of Purchase materials and dealer display racks as needed. Verify proper disposal/destruction of coupons in unsold copies by dealers.
  • Handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
    High School Diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of basic math required. Must have a valid driver’s license; clean driving record. Good communication skills.

  • Uses technology to optimize presentation of content, including photos, videos, mapping, data, etc. Learns the basics in emerging technology to stay current.

  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in journalism, communications or a related field -- or equivalent experience; and four or more years of daily journalism experience, preferably in a multiple platform environment. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an automobile. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, night and day, and be available to work weekends and holidays.
