Occupation: I am a software developer and technology manager. I have worked at large companies and tiny startups. I/'/ve written 2 technical books on Android programming.
Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?
What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?
People think of technology as bits and bytes. It is really about bring people together to agree on an idea. That idea is the shared vision or common goal. People need to work hard and pull together to accomplish great things.
I would like to bring ny experience at prioritization and balancing competing interests from multiple constituencies to this board of education.
The board has too often been focused on cutting one program to fund another. There is not set direction or vision that the public can see or understand.
What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?
I care about addressing issues in the middle school. People have repeatedly called the middle school the weak link in the district. Middle school is a critical time and students need support at that age We have cut guidance counselors too deeply and I think that is a mistake.
On a broader level, I care about:
1. Engagement: The board must directly seek input from individuals, work woth the towns of Lewisboro and Bedford, and work with state officials to restore funding and other issues. I organized meetings of community members to meet with Assemblyman David Buchwald, Senator Greg Ball, and Rob Astorino/'/s chief of staff George Oros. Our state legislators have helped to assure student privacy by combating inBloom, have made changes to common core, and have strong beliefs on funding and on sensible taxes for seniors. the district can no longer remain in a bubble and do what a few people think might work. We must be part of the bigger effort.
2. Oversight. I have done to many board of education meetings. I ask a lot of questions. I asked why the board did not approve a veteran/'/s tax benefit. I asked why the board is spending $400,000 to move the district office for the 3rd time in 3 years. The administration is responsible to the board and the board is responsible to the public. I take the oversight role very seriously.
Whether we call it a vision, a common goal, or a shared vision, we need to know where we are going. On a practical level, we need to hire a superintendent. The turnover in key roles in this district has been a destructive force. We need to achieve excellence at value. An excellent district benefits everyone and o parent will set the district on an unsustainable path. We/'/ve been divided by those who would add programs at any cost and those who would cut the budget at all costs. There is a world in the middle where we can come together and create sensible policies.
