Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?
What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?
I have served as a school board trustee for 10 years. I have been a part of almost every aspect of the running of the district--in everything from interviewing potential staff to investigating cost-saving measures.
On the Facilities and Transportation Committee that I have served on throughout my tenure we have grabbed at every opportunity to save money. We have joined consortiums and we have saved millions over the last few years on fuel, electricity and buying in bulk products and services.
What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?
3 Priorities/Challenges facing our district--
- The experts are reporting that with each generation greater mental health issues need to be addressed. Mental health needs to be encouraged and supported and school districts will need to play greater roles. I would reach out to health insurance companies for some funding because it would serve in the interest of the financial well-being of these companies to catch mental health issues early before they progress and are even more costly.
- Technology is moving rapidly forward and in order for our students to remain competitive and fully-informed, the technology in our district needs to move forward as well. I would reach out to tech manufactures and companies and buy or lease in bulk/solicit donations.
- The families of our district have been "doing more with less" and that is something that our district needs to do more of each year as we receive less aid and are handed unfunded mandates.
I believe that Standardized Testing and Common Core as they exist, are unsuccessful and need to be reworked or cancelled. I am pro-student and pro-parent and again, I believe a quality education can be gained without always over burdening the taxpayers; many who are seniors and Veterans, two groups I hold in high regard. I would be honored to receive your support and vote.
