Why are you running for office or seeking re-election?
I have always enjoyed being part of the Clarkstown Central School District. These past few years I have felt that we as a district have lost sight of our goals. Our Goals as a District are to provide a safe and effective learning environment to all our students. Making sure that our students are given the best opportunities, and the best education is a must in my eyes. We as a district need to stop being reactive, instead we need to be proactive!
What in your personal, civic or professional experience recommends your election or return to office?
I have many unique skills, and probably some different experiences than most of the board.
As I will be Graduating from Clarkstown South this year I have a strong understanding of the areas and programs in need of attention in this district. I have many ideas that can seriously benefit the district as a whole; ideas that other members of the board might not come across so easily as they have not sat in our classrooms 5 days a week. For example, to continue to offer programs that attract diverse learners to our courses, and encourage our students to take a more active roll into their education. I also have an understanding of some of the waste within buildings.
What would be your top three priorities if you are elected or re-elected?
In my opinion, our greatest challenge is the current state of many school buildings. Many need major attention. All too often we take the quick fix, which in the long run isnít the best, and doesnít last. Moving forward we need to look into the future and the side effects a decision might have, before making any decisions. We need to correct these issues making sure to keep the burden off the taxpayers.
Common Core, and maintaining the quality of education are among the three priorities as well.
